Free Reading Blog #4

I am now finished reading Night.  I would definitely recommend it to those who are interested in learning about the Holocaust.  However, if you find the topic disturbing and can not stomach the gruesomeness of it, this may not be the book for you.  What i found most rewarding about reading this book was the fact that I am leaving with new knowledge that i had not had before, not just about the Holocaust, but about life in general.  Bravery is an envied quality that i wish i had after learning about Elie’s experiences.  He stayed brave and managed to be one of the few survivors in Auschwitz. Overall, Night was an amazing book that i would highly recommend others to consider reading in hopes of enlightening themselves.

At this point in the book, I have started to realize some things about my own life.  Many people in this world take their lives  for granted.  They focus on what they are missing and what they want.  After reading half of this book, I learned that there is more to life than just material things.  For example, our very freedom is taken forgranted.  After reading about what life was like in the camps, it really made me appreciate what i have now.  My prior knowledge of this event was not nearly as accurate as i had thought.  I knew that they were murdered, but what i did not know was that they were constantly at work and did not have any time to themselves.  Nightis brilliant in the sense that it illuminates and highlights the horrors of the Holocaust and gives the reader a first hand view of the event.

Currently in the book Night, the main character, Elie Weisel, who is also the author, tells us about her family life and his upbringing.  She comes from a very orthodox Jewish family living in the mid 1900’s in Sighet.  I am not really looking forward to reading about the authors experiences in the Holocaust.  It is a very sensitive subject for me because i am also Jewish and it hurts to know that my ancestors went through so much pain and hardship. I predict that this book will give a very graphic visual of what really went on in the concentration camps.

For the free reading assignment, i chose Night by Elie Weisel.  I chose this book because I am interested in reading about the holocaust.  My sister read the book when she was in middle school and recommended it compared to the rest of the books on the list. My prediction is that it is going to be a very depressing story.  I read a similar book called the Diary of Anne Frank.  I really enjoyed reading this book even though it was very sad.

The Scottish Play Progress

For the Scottish Play project, my group is doing very well.  We all have our character parts organized and we all know what we are going to contribute to our prompt book.  However i do not think anyone has started their independent assignments.  For the most part, our group is very cooperative, with the exception of a few minor arguments.  We also have some issues organizing the costume designs which should not be a problem for too much longer.
